Dyson has introduced a more portable take on its iconic Supersonic hairdryer, with the new Supersonic Travel designed for people who want the same performance in a smaller, more packable form.
It’s not a budget option, though. The travel-friendly version still comes in at $299.99/£249.99.
The Supersonic Travel is built with portability in mind. Dyson says it’s 32% smaller and 25% lighter than the original.
This makes it easier to slip into a carry-on or gym bag without sacrificing too much space. Despite the size drop, it keeps the same core technology as the standard Supersonic. For example, it includes fast, controlled airflow and temperature regulation aimed at reducing heat damage.
One genuinely useful upgrade is automatic voltage adaptation, which means it can adjust to different countries without needing a separate converter. This is a small but practical feature for frequent travellers. Dyson is also keeping things simple for existing users. The new model is backwards compatible with original Supersonic attachments, so there’s no need to rebuy accessories.
This isn’t Dyson’s first tweak to the Supersonic line. In 2024, the company launched the Supersonic r, a slimmer, more ergonomic version initially aimed at professional stylists. It comes complete with smart attachments that adjust airflow and heat automatically. The Travel model, by comparison, feels more like a consumer-focused refinement than a full redesign.
It also lands at a time when Dyson’s beauty range is more crowded than ever. Since the original Supersonic launched a decade ago, the company has expanded into tools like the Airwrap, Airstrait and Corrale. All of these have gone viral. Meanwhile, Dyson has faced growing competition from rivals like Shark and even L’Oréal.
The Supersonic Travel doesn’t reinvent the formula, but it does make a strong case for a smaller, more flexible version of a well-established product. This is especially true if you’re often styling your hair away from home.
