Klipsch celebrates 80 years with the retro, two-way Klipschorn loudspeaker

Klipsch is marking its 80th anniversary by bringing one of its oldest ideas back to life. It has unveiled the Limited Edition 80th Anniversary Klipschorn, a modern take on founder Paul W. Klipsch’s original 1946 loudspeaker design with only 280 pairs to be made worldwide.

The new speaker makes its debut at High End Vienna 2026. While it looks every bit like a classic Heritage Series product, there are some notable changes under the hood.

Most significantly, Klipsch has returned to the original two-way configuration used in the earliest Klipschorn models, which differs from the three-way setup found in modern versions.

That might sound like a step backwards, but Klipsch sees it as a return to its first principles. The company says the speaker combines Paul W. Klipsch’s original patented design with modern engineering.

This includes a new K-5-K high-frequency horn, a 4-inch compression driver derived from the Klipsch Jubilee, and an active DSP crossover designed to improve timing, phase alignment and overall system integration.

The folded horn cabinet remains a key part of the design, helping the speaker deliver the kind of deep, efficient bass that has made the Klipschorn famous for decades. A 15-inch K-33-E woofer handles low frequencies while the active crossover allows users to fine-tune EQ and gain settings to suit their room.

Visually, the anniversary edition leans heavily into its heritage. Each pair is hand-built in Hope, Arkansas, finished in Tigerwood veneer, and accented with brass detailing that traces the contours of the folded horn.

Klipsch says every set was build to order, with book-matched wood veneer creating a mirrored grain pattern across the pair.

The Klipschorn already holds a unique place in hi-fi history as the world’s longest-running loudspeaker still in continuous production. Eight decades on, Klipsch is celebrating that legacy by revisiting where it all started.
