Framework’s next big laptop has hit a snag, but it’s not for the reason you might expect.
The Framework Laptop 13 Pro has been delayed, with the company pushing back deliveries after running into unexpected production issues.
It originally told early buyers to expect shipments starting in June. However, that timeline has now slipped to late July or early August for the first batch. New orders placed today are looking at a wider window between August and October, depending on configuration.
What’s important here is what isn’t causing the delay. Framework says this has nothing to do with the ongoing DRAM supply concerns affecting parts of the industry. Instead, the issue comes down to two new components that sit at the core of the Laptop 13 Pro’s upgrades. These are the haptic trackpad and the display.
On the trackpad side, Framework discovered a grounding issue on the mainboard design that could cause it to reset after repeated clicks. It’s the kind of small hardware flaw that doesn’t always show up until late-stage testing. Still, it is serious enough to require a design fix before mass production can continue.
The display issue, meanwhile, was less dramatic but still enough to slow things down. Framework says it has already resolved it through a firmware update. Additionally, its panel supplier CSOT is now producing updated panels with the corrected firmware baked in. Even so, aligning those fixes with production hardware takes time, which is what ultimately pushed the schedule back.
Despite the setback, the Laptop 13 Pro still looks positioned as Framework’s most ambitious machine yet. It is build around Intel’s Panther Lake platform and pairs it with a 700-nit display, a haptic trackpad, and the company’s signature modular, repairable design. In theory, it targets users who want high-end performance without giving up the ability to repair or upgrade their machine over time.
Framework has also confirmed that customers who don’t want to wait can cancel their pre-orders and receive a refund. This softens the impact slightly for early adopters who were expecting a summer delivery.
