Apple is giving everyone an updated taste of iOS 26.6

Apple has released the second public beta of its upcoming software updates. These include iOS 26.6, iPadOS 26.6, macOS Tahoe 26.6, watchOS 26.6, and tvOS 26.6.

The new builds arrive a day after Apple pushed the same updates to developers. They also come around three weeks after the first public betas became available.

Anyone enrolled in Apple’s public beta programme can download the latest releases through the Software Update section of the Settings app on their device. However, this is only after registering via Apple’s beta testing website.

While Apple is continuing to refine its current software lineup, don’t expect a major feature-packed update. So far, iOS 26.6 appears to focus largely on bug fixes and under-the-hood improvements. This is as Apple prepares for its next generation of operating systems.

That said, a handful of new additions have surfaced in the beta code. One feature appears designed to warn users if they have blocked an unusually high number of contacts. The threshold is reportedly set in the thousands, meaning most iPhone owners are unlikely to ever encounter the notification.

More interestingly, references have also been discovered to a potential anti-theft feature that could automatically lock an iPhone if it is snatched from a user’s hand. Apple has yet to officially detail the functionality. However, it could become another layer in the company’s growing collection of device security tools.

Beyond those changes, there doesn’t appear to be much new functionality across iOS, macOS, watchOS, or tvOS. That’s not particularly surprising given where Apple is in its software cycle.

The company is already looking ahead to the next wave of updates, with iOS 27iPadOS 27, and macOS Golden Gate expected to arrive later this year. As a result, Apple is likely using the remaining iOS 26.6 beta period to squash bugs, improve stability, and address security issues. This is before shifting its focus entirely to the next generation of software.

For public beta testers, however, the latest releases offer an early look at Apple’s final refinements. This is before the current software generation begins winding down.
