Apple TV and HomePod mini could get Apple Intelligence in 2027

Apple could be preparing to bring Apple Intelligence to the living room. Updated versions of the Apple TV and HomePod mini are reportedly in advanced testing ahead of a potential launch in 2027.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is working on refreshed versions of both devices that would support its growing suite of AI features. While Apple has spent the past year or so rolling out Apple Intelligence across the iPhone, iPad and Mac, these could be the first entertainment-focused devices to receive the company’s AI treatment.

The report suggests Apple isn’t planning major design changes for either product. Instead, the focus appears to be on upgrading the internals to support Apple Intelligence and the next generation of Siri AI.

That approach makes sense. The current Apple TV remains one of the strongest streaming boxes available while the HomePod Mini continues to serve as Apple’s most accessible smart speaker. Rather than redesigning hardware that already works well, Apple seems more interested in making the experience smarter.

While specific features haven’t been detailed, Apple Intelligence could unlock more capable voice interactions across both devices. On Apple TV, that could mean asking Siri to find specific scenes from films, summarise content, or handle more natural search requests. On the HomePod mini, a more conversational assistant could make smart home controls and everyday queries feel significantly less rigid.

The only notable hardware change mentioned in the report is a potential refresh for the Apple TV remote. Details remain scarce but Apple’s remotes have seen several revisions over the years, making it one of the few areas where a physical update wouldn’t be entirely surprising.

The bigger picture is Apple’s continued effort to expand Apple Intelligence beyond its traditional devices. Rumours surrounding foldable iPhones, smart glasses and camera-equipped AirPods have dominated recent headlines. However, bringing AI to products that already sit in millions of homes may prove just as important.

If the reported timeline holds, Apple TV and HomePod mini could become the next major pieces of Apple’s AI ecosystem. And unlike some of the company’s more ambitious hardware rumours, this feels like a fairly natural next step.
