Samsung has announced the Galaxy A27, a new budget Android phone that gets one of the most important flagship-style perks: long software support.
According to Samsung, the Galaxy A27 5G will launch in the US on July 14 for $349.99 unlocked. For that price, Samsung is promising up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades, along with up to six years of security updates.
The update promise is the biggest thing working in its favour. Longer software support is usually easier to expect from premium devices, so bringing it to a cheaper Galaxy A model makes the A27 5G more practical for anyone who wants to keep their phone for several years.
Beyond the long update promise, the hardware also looks fairly competitive for the price. The Galaxy A27 5G has a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with an up to 120Hz refresh rate. It also has a slimmer 7.8mm body and a punch-hole Infinity-O display instead of the older notch-style cutout.
Battery life should be handled by a 5,000mAh cell with 25W wired charging, although wireless charging is not included. Around the back, Samsung has added a 50MP main camera with OIS, a 5MP ultrawide and a 2MP macro camera. The front camera is a 12MP sensor for selfies and video calls.
Power comes from the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage in the US. There is a microSD support as well, which is still useful on a cheaper phone, especially if you plan to keep it for longer.
The Galaxy A27 5G runs Android 16 with One UI 8.5 out of the box. Samsung is also including a few AI features under its Awesome Intelligence branding, including Circle to Search, Object Eraser, and Voice Recorder transcription tools. Gemini, Perplexity and Samsung’s own Galaxy AI assistant are also pre-installed.
The phone will only be sold in black at launch, and there is no word yet on carrier availability. Still, with a big display, long updates and a sub-$350 price, it could be one to watch in the best cheap phone space.
