Samsung’s latest July security update appears to be causing unexpected problems for some Galaxy flagship owners.
A growing number of Galaxy S25 Ultra and Galaxy S24 Ultra users are reporting significantly worse battery life, overheating, and even slower charging after installing the software.
The complaints have surfaced across Samsung’s Community forums over the past few days, with affected users claiming the issues began immediately after applying the July security patch. While the update was intended to improve stability and security, some owners say it has had the opposite effect.
One Galaxy S25 Ultra owner said their handset previously delivered normal battery life before the update. After installing the July patch, however, they claimed the battery dropped from around 85% at midnight to just 5% by midday despite logging only around two hours of screen-on time. The same user also reported unusually high idle battery drain, claiming the phone now loses between 5% and 7% of its charge every hour, even when it’s not actively being used.
Similar complaints have also emerged from Galaxy S24 Ultra owners. In a separate Samsung Community thread, one user said their phone had comfortably lasted a full day on a single charge before the update. However, battery life has noticeably deteriorated since installing the latest software.
The reports don’t stop at shorter battery life. Several users replying to the discussion threads claim their devices are also running much hotter than before, even during relatively light use. Others have reported slower charging speeds. This suggests the update may be affecting power management more broadly.
At this stage, it’s unclear how widespread the problem is. Only a small number of users on Samsung’s forums have reported complaints, rather than every Galaxy S25 Ultra or Galaxy S24 Ultra owner who installed the update.
Samsung has yet to publicly acknowledge the reports or confirm whether the July security patch is responsible. That also means there’s currently no official workaround for affected users.
For now, anyone experiencing the issue will likely need to wait for a follow-up software update. If Samsung determines the July patch is the cause, it’s likely the company will address the battery drain, overheating, and charging issues in a future firmware release.
