Google’s upcoming Pixel 11 series could introduce a new way to stay on top of notifications without ever turning on the display, dubbed HiLight.
The latest information comes from an official-looking marketing image shared by Roland Quandt of WinFuture. The image appears to show the Pixel 11 Pro Fold alongside Google’s new branding. If accurate, it confirms that Google has dropped the working name Pixel Glow in favour of HiLight.
More importantly, the leaked promotional material offers the clearest explanation yet of the feature’s purpose.
According to the translated text, HiLight is designed to “stay informed without looking at your screen.” When the phone is placed face down, the rear light can illuminate discreetly when selected contacts call or when users receive notifications from Gemini.
That lines up with earlier reports that Pixel Glow would replace the traditional notification behaviour with a programmable rear light capable of changing colour. Google has previously teased the hardware in promotional material. However, until now it hadn’t explained what it would actually be used for.
If the leak proves accurate, HiLight could offer a less distracting alternative to constantly waking the display for notifications. This is particularly helpful for users who keep their phone face down on a desk. The feature also appears to tie into Google’s growing focus on Gemini, with AI conversations specifically mentioned alongside incoming calls from favourite contacts.
It’s still unclear whether HiLight will support additional functions beyond notifications. Previous leaks have only hinted that the LED would be able to change colour dynamically. Still, Google has yet to outline whether developers or users will be able to customise its behaviour.
Fortunately, there’s not long to wait. Google’s Pixel 11 launch event is now just over a week away. At the event, the company is expected to unveil the Pixel 11 family and explain new software features in full.
Until then, HiLight remains another leaked addition to Google’s next-generation flagship phones. However, if the marketing material is genuine, it could become one of the more distinctive quality-of-life upgrades arriving with the Pixel 11 lineup.
