Google’s next smartwatch could be getting its biggest internal upgrade in years, potentially sporting a new Snapdragon chip, more memory and storage, and a redesigned Active Band.
According to specifications published by Dealabs, the Pixel Watch 5 will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Accelerated. While Qualcomm has yet to officially announce the chip, the “Accelerated” branding suggests a focus on improved performance and would likely be an upgrade over the current Snapdragon W5 platform.
The leak follows an earlier Google Play Console listing that pointed to the Pixel Watch 5 using Qualcomm’s SW5100 platform with the same CPU and GPU configuration as its predecessor. However, the latest report indicates Google may instead debut an updated version of the processor when the smartwatch launches.
Memory is also tipped for a significant boost. The Pixel Watch 5 is expected to ship with 3GB of RAM, up from 2GB on the current model. Meanwhile, onboard storage is reportedly doubling from 32GB to 64GB. Together, those upgrades could improve app performance while giving users considerably more room for offline music, apps and watch faces.
Battery capacity is also increasing, albeit only slightly. The 41mm Pixel Watch 5 is said to feature a 332mAh battery, compared to 325mAh previously. Meanwhile, the 45mm version grows from 455mAh to 465mAh.
Despite the larger batteries, the quoted battery life reportedly remains unchanged at 30 hours with the always-on display enabled for the smaller model and 40 hours for the larger variant. This suggests the extra capacity may be used to offset the demands of the upgraded hardware.
Another notable change concerns the included strap. The report claims Google will introduce a second-generation Active Band made from hydrogenated nitrile-butadiene rubber (HNBR), replacing the current fluoroelastomer material. Whether this brings improvements in comfort or durability remains to be seen.
Elsewhere, the smartwatch is expected to launch with Wear OS 7.0 featuring Gemini Intelligence. This continues Google’s push to integrate AI more deeply across its devices.
Other core specifications are reportedly unchanged, including the 3,000-nit Actua display, Bluetooth 6.0, Wi-Fi, NFC, UWB, and 5ATM plus IP68 water and dust resistance. While nothing is official yet, the leak suggests Google is focusing on meaningful internal upgrades rather than a major redesign for its next smartwatch.
