Edifier has refreshed its compact Airpulse bookshelf speaker lineup with the launch of the Airpulse A80V.
The new speaker, now available in China, builds on the existing Airpulse A80 rather than replacing it entirely.
The biggest hardware change is a redesigned 4.5-inch mid-bass driver. Edifier says it delivers a fuller and rounder low-end response without compromising the speaker’s detailed sound signature. The upgraded driver features an all-cast aluminium frame, a hardened aluminium alloy diaphragm and a 30mm voice coil.
The speaker continues to use Airpulse’s distinctive horn-loaded aluminium ribbon tweeter. Unlike a traditional dome tweeter, the ribbon design combines the diaphragm and voice coil into a single element. As a result, it responds more quickly to transient sounds while reducing phase distortion. Edifier says it also extends high-frequency performance up to 40kHz.
Alongside the revised driver, the A80V gains several new input options. A 3.5mm AUX input joins the existing RCA connection for analogue sources. Meanwhile, USB-C with Savitech Hi-Fi USB decoding and a new Toslink optical input expands its digital connectivity. Bluetooth 5.1 is handled by a Qualcomm QCC3031 chip with aptX HD support for higher-quality wireless streaming.
Power comes from a pair of Texas Instruments TAS5754M Class D amplifiers, with separate amplification for the tweeters and mid-bass drivers. Edifier rates the system at 10W + 10W for the ribbon tweeters. Also, it’s rated at 40W + 40W for the mid-bass drivers.
The cabinet remains constructed from 18mm MDF, with internal wave-shaped sound-absorbing material designed to reduce unwanted resonance. A dedicated SUB OUT connection also allows users to add an external subwoofer for larger listening spaces.
Edifier says the Airpulse A80V offers a frequency response from 52Hz to 20kHz and a 90dB(A) signal-to-noise ratio. The speakers measure 140 x 255 x 238mm, weigh 9.3kg per pair, and are available now in China for 2,879 yuan (roughly $402). There’s no word yet on international availability.
