Samsung says its latest foldables are off to a record-breaking start in Europe – and considering how good the new phones are, it’s hardly a surprise.
The new Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra are significantly outperforming last year’s generation during the pre-order period.
According to the company, combined pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra are 70% higher than those for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 over the same period last year. This result makes Samsung’s latest book-style foldables its most pre-ordered foldable phones in Europe to date.
The launch has also boosted demand across the wider lineup. Samsung says total pre-orders for the new Galaxy Z series, which also includes the Galaxy Z Flip 8, are 17% higher than the previous European record. Pre-orders remain open for one final day. This is ahead of the devices going on sale on 7 August.

One of the biggest contributors appears to be the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8. Samsung says the new model accounts for 40% of all European pre-orders. This suggests the introduction of its new, more compact form factor has resonated with buyers.
While the company hasn’t broken down demand for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra or Galaxy Z Flip 8 individually, the figures point to strong interest across the refreshed foldable range. Additionally, Samsung described the response as evidence that the latest design changes are encouraging more users to make the jump to foldable devices.

The announcement also follows reports from Samsung’s home market, where the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series recently set new pre-order records in South Korea. As a result, the European figures suggest that momentum is carrying over internationally. This is happening as the devices begin reaching customers.
Recent reports have also indicated that the redesigned Galaxy Z Fold 8 is persuading some existing Galaxy Z Flip owners to switch to Samsung’s book-style foldable. This is thanks to its more pocket-friendly design and larger internal display.
With retail availability beginning on 7 August, Samsung will soon find out whether that early enthusiasm translates into long-term sales. For now, though, the company appears to have delivered its strongest European foldable launch yet. The latest Galaxy Z Fold lineup is comfortably outpacing its predecessor before the phones have even reached store shelves.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 feels like a turning point for Samsung’s foldables, trading pure productivity for a lighter, more practical design that’s genuinely enjoyable day to day. It has compromises, especially around cameras, sustained performance and battery life, but it’s still the Samsung foldable I’d choose.
