Amazon appears to have accidentally made Jason Statham’s upcoming Mutiny available to stream on Prime Video, despite the film not being due in cinemas for another two days.
The full 1-hour-and-35-minute movie was briefly available on the US version of Prime Video before being pulled. The listing was live for at least an hour, and the film is now marked as unavailable on the streaming service.
Mutiny is officially scheduled to arrive in cinemas on August 21, meaning the early Prime Video listing gave viewers access to the entire movie ahead of its theatrical release. The film’s official website and marketing materials still state that it will only be available in theatres when it launches.
It’s unclear exactly when Mutiny was added to Prime Video or how the listing went live. The page appeared to be a genuine, fully populated Prime Video listing rather than a placeholder. It featured the movie’s thumbnail, cast information and synopsis.
That synopsis reads: “After his billionaire industrialist boss is murdered in front of him, Cole Reed is set up to take the fall for the crime — leaving him on the run as he works to uncover a conspiracy.”
There’s also no indication that the early streaming availability was intentional. Mutiny was produced by Punch Palace Productions and MadRiver Pictures and distributed in the US by Lionsgate, none of which are owned by Amazon. That makes a deliberate Prime Video release particularly unlikely.
Amazon has been contacted for comment, although there’s no indication yet of how the mistake happened.
For now, anyone hoping to watch Mutiny early on Prime Video is out of luck. The movie was removed from the service and is no longer available to stream. Its theatrical release is still scheduled for August 21.
It’s an unusually significant slip-up, too. This wasn’t an early trailer, a few scenes or a release-date error: the entire film was briefly accessible. Moreover, with Mutiny still days away from its cinema debut, Amazon has effectively given the movie an accidental early streaming window before quickly closing it again.
