JBL is making it easier to turn your TV into a home cinema. Its new Cinema SB MK2 soundbar range introduces a clever way to add wireless rear speakers. You can do this without buying a separate surround system.
The big feature is JBL’s new SurroundPlay technology, which lets compatible JBL portable speakers double as wireless rear channels. At launch, that means a pair of JBL Flip 7 speakers can be connected to the soundbar. You can use them to create a more immersive surround set-up at the touch of a button.
The range includes four models, starting with the SB510MK2 (£159.99) and topping out at the SB595MK2 (£349.99). All four have a dedicated centre channel for clearer dialogue. Meanwhile, the more expensive models add wireless subwoofers and Dolby Atmos.
The SB595MK2 is the flagship, delivering 440W of power through a 3.1.2-channel setup, a wireless 6.5-inch subwoofer and two up-firing drivers to deliver the height channels for Dolby Atmos. In addition, it also gets HDMI eARC, Bluetooth and Auracast, and an intriguing foldable design.
The SB580MK2 (£299.99) also delivers 440W and a wireless 6.5-inch subwoofer, but uses a 3.1-channel configuration with Dolby Atmos. The SB550MK2 (£199.99) drops to 360W and a wireless 5.25-inch subwoofer. Furthermore, the SB510MK2 provides 200W of power from an all-in-one design with a built-in subwoofer.
There’s a practical touch to the range, too. JBL says the soundbars fold into a compact U-shape alongside their subwoofers, reducing packed volume by up to 20%. That should make them easier to transport while also reducing packaging volume.
The JBL Cinema SB MK2 series will be available in select markets from 1 October 2026 through JBL.com.
If you already own a pair of Flip 7 speakers, the SurroundPlay feature could make the upgrade particularly interesting. Rather than leaving them around the house, you can put them to work behind the sofa.
