Apple is giving prospective iPhone Duo buyers a head start, with a new “Get Ready” option arriving ahead of the phone’s official pre-order date. The process will open on Monday, October 12, giving shoppers time to sort out the details before orders go live.
The “Get Ready” process lets you choose your preferred colour and storage capacity, confirm your carrier status and pick any accessories you want with the phone. You can also select an AppleCare+ plan, arrange a trade-in, add your payment method and confirm your shipping and billing addresses.
That might sound like a lot of admin, but getting it done beforehand could save some valuable time when pre-orders actually open. Once the iPhone Duo is available, customers who have completed the process can place their order with a single tap rather than working through those choices at the last minute.
That could be particularly useful if stock is limited. Reports have pointed to production issues affecting the iPhone Duo, raising the possibility of constrained supplies at launch. If demand is high, having your order details ready could mean getting through the checkout process before available units disappear.
Not everyone is taking the preparation quite so seriously, though. Over on Reddit, the idea of preparing for a pre-order before the pre-order has already become a running joke. “Getting ready to preorder my preorder,” one commenter wrote. Another took it a step further: “If you ain’t preordering your preorder preorder, you’re too late.”
Apple is set to open iPhone Duo pre-orders on Friday, October 16 at 1pm BST (5am Pacific Time, 8am Eastern Time). The phone will then officially launch on Friday, October 23, with pricing starting at £/$1,999.
So, if you’re already planning to pick one up, October 12 is the date to get your details sorted. It doesn’t mean you can actually order the phone early, but it does remove much of the setup work you’ll otherwise need to do when pre-orders begin.
