Apple is reportedly helping LG build these new smart home gadgets

LG’s upcoming smart home range has been given its first proper look, with FCC filings revealing the designs and some key features of three accessories reportedly being developed with Apple.

The filings, found by MacRumors, show a smart thermostat, temperature sensor and smart deadbolt that LG is expected to sell under its own brand.

Apple isn’t named in the regulatory documents themselves, so its involvement comes from an earlier Bloomberg report. Still, the filings give us a much better idea of what the products will actually look like and how they could work.

The thermostat, model TMCTAW5W, has a round, puck-like design with a raised edge and runs from a 24V AC power supply. It supports 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Thread, while an FCC radio test confirms a built-in 60GHz radar. That could allow the thermostat to detect when someone is nearby.

The thermostat also reportedly has a “Far Sight Display” setting, humidity readings and controls for screen brightness and language, alongside temperature calibration and offset controls.

LG’s temperature sensor, meanwhile, is a smaller round device powered by a replaceable CR2477 coin battery. It measures temperature and humidity and supports Bluetooth Low Energy and Thread. Its magnetic rear lets it attach to metal surfaces, while an included adhesive-backed metal plate provides another mounting option. It can also alert you when the battery needs replacing.

The third device is a smart deadbolt available in Graphite and Silver, with model numbers TMCDD15G and TMCDD15S. It uses four AA batteries and supports Bluetooth, Thread, NFC and UWB. The latter is particularly interesting: the lock can verify access credentials over Bluetooth and then use UWB to determine the user’s position before unlocking, giving more detail on the proximity-based unlocking previously reported.

The lock reportedly includes a rotating keypad, automatic unlocking, tap-to-unlock, emergency power and master codes, along with two mechanical keys. It supports 2.375-inch (60.3mm) and 2.75-inch (69.9mm) brackets.

These three devices are reportedly part of a seven-product range, with a wired video doorbell, indoor and outdoor security cameras and a floodlight camera also expected.

Apple and LG have worked together before, including on UltraFine displays, but this new partnership could give Apple a broader smart home lineup without requiring it to manufacture everything itself.
