People are not happy about the cost of the Apple HomeView mount

Apple has officially unveiled its new HomeView smart home display, but its wall-mounted version is already attracting criticism over one frustrating detail: the £299/$299 device doesn’t actually come with a wall mount.

The company announced two versions of HomeView, a standard model with a speaker base and a wall-mounted option, both priced at £/$299. However, despite having a less powerful speaker system than the desktop version, the wall-mounted HomeView requires a separate mounting accessory that starts at £54.95/$59.95, pushing the actual cost of getting it up and running to at least £353.95/$358.95.

Apple is offering two mounting options made by Schneider Home, including the Power Mount USB-C Wall Connector for £54.95/$59.95 and the Power Mount AC Wired for £69.95/$79.95. A third option, the Power Mount PoE Wired, is expected in early 2027.

The pricing hasn’t gone down particularly well with some users on Reddit. One commenter criticised Apple’s approach, suggesting the company is banking on wall-mounted buyers being less sensitive to price, despite receiving weaker speakers and having to pay extra for installation.

Another pointed out that the product appears to target customers already investing in more elaborate smart home systems, such as those from Crestron, Savant and Lutron.

Not everyone sees the pricing as entirely surprising, though. One Reddit user suggested Apple may be deliberately avoiding a cheaper wall-mounted model to prevent customers from buying it as a budget alternative to the standard HomeView and pairing it with inexpensive third-party stands.

Apple does make it clear that the wall-mounted HomeView requires a separate mount and power solution to operate, so while customers can technically purchase the device alone for $299, they’ll still need additional hardware to use it as intended.

Both HomeView models are available to pre-order now, with deliveries scheduled to begin on November 13. The two existing mount options are also available to order, although buyers hoping for the PoE version will have to wait until early 2027.
