Samsung Health update speeds up Sleep Coaching and expands Running Coach

Samsung is making it easier to get personalised sleep advice and improve your running performance with a new Samsung Health update, bringing changes to both Sleep Coaching and Running Coach.

The biggest improvement comes to Sleep Coaching, which previously required seven days of sleep data collected within a month before users could get started. Samsung has reduced that requirement to just three days of data within two weeks, making it much quicker to access personalised recommendations without tracking an entire week’s sleep first.

The updated setup also looks more closely at your sleeping habits. Users are asked about their sleep regularity, nighttime interruptions, alcohol and caffeine consumption, and overall sleep satisfaction. Samsung then combines these answers with recorded sleep data to assign a Sleep Animal and create a personalised coaching programme lasting between four and eight weeks.

The programme adjusts its recommendations weekly as sleep patterns change, with daily checklists and practical tips such as avoiding screens before bed or cutting back on late caffeine.

There’s also a new Sleep Balance graph that brings five key measurements into one pentagon-shaped view: sleep duration, regularity, time spent awake during the night, sleep satisfaction and Energy Score. Morning insights provide a breakdown of the previous night’s rest, while weekly and final reports help users track their progress over time.

Running Coach is getting some attention too, with Samsung expanding its training system from 10 to 12 levels to better accommodate intermediate and advanced runners. Training plans are still based on a 12-minute running test or previous running data, but users can now turn completed workouts into shareable templates for social media.

Samsung has also partnered with Strava, allowing users to import their favourite routes directly into Samsung Health for running, trail running and cycling. It’s a useful addition for anyone who already plans their workouts through Strava but prefers keeping their fitness data in Samsung’s ecosystem.

The updated Sleep Coaching requires Samsung Health v6.24 or later, a Galaxy phone running Android 11 or newer, and a compatible Galaxy Watch 4 series or newer, Galaxy Fit3 or newer, or Galaxy Ring. Running Coach requires Samsung Health v6.30.2 or later, an Android 10 or newer phone, a Samsung account and a Galaxy Watch 8 series or newer.

Samsung says the new features will roll out gradually through app updates this month, although availability may vary depending on the device and region.
