Google’s Fitbit Air could launch in a few weeks for a tempting price

Google’s rumoured Whoop rival is starting to take shape as new leaks suggest the Fitbit Air could launch as soon as May 16.

The price could hover around $100, potentially making it one of the more affordable entries in the subscription-style fitness tracking space.

The details come from supplier and retail data spotted by Droid-Life, following earlier confirmation of the “Fitbit Air” name. While nothing is official yet, the pricing lines up with a supplier listing of around $93. This points to a relatively low upfront cost compared to traditional fitness wearables.

That’s particularly interesting given the likely positioning. Whoop, which is the tracker Fitbit Air is expected to compete with, doesn’t charge for hardware at all. Instead, it locks core features behind a subscription. Fitbit’s approach here could split the difference. It may offer a cheaper device upfront while still potentially building in service-based features down the line.

The leak also sheds light on how customisable the Fitbit Air might be. It’s expected to launch with a wide range of bands and colours. Many of these will feel familiar if you’ve used the Pixel Watch. Core colours for the tracker itself include Obsidian, Lavender, and Berry. Band options range from Performance Loop and Active Bands (in multiple sizes) to a more premium Metal Mesh finish.

One standout is the so-called Elevated SoftFlex band. This has already been spotted on Steph Curry and appears closest in style to Whoop’s minimalist design. That could hint at a more discreet, screen-light wearable focused on continuous tracking rather than notifications.

If the May launch window holds, we likely won’t be waiting long to see how Fitbit Air fits into Google’s broader health ecosystem. We’ll also see whether it can genuinely take on Whoop at its own game.
