DJI’s latest mini power station packs a serious punch

Shrinking one of its most capable portable power units to nearly half its previous footprint, DJI has launched the Power 1000 Mini, a 1kWh power station that matches the battery capacity of the original DJI Power 1000 released two years ago – while occupying significantly less space.

That capacity-to-size ratio places the Power 1000 Mini among the most compact 1kWh power stations currently available from major manufacturers, a distinction that makes it particularly relevant for users who need substantial off-grid power without dedicating large amounts of storage space to the unit.

The Power 1000 Mini integrates an MPPT solar charge controller directly into the unit, removing the need for a separate component when connecting solar panels and effectively converting the station into a solar generator for extended off-grid use without additional hardware.

Beyond solar input, the Power 1000 Mini supports fast charging from a vehicle’s alternator when wired to the starter battery, a capability that broadens its practical appeal for van lifers and overlanders who need to replenish capacity while driving between locations.

A built-in retractable USB-C cable removes the need to carry a separate lead for smaller devices, while an integrated light with remote control functionality adds utility beyond pure power delivery, covering basic illumination needs without drawing on an external source.

That reduced footprint does introduce some connectivity compromises, with the Power 1000 Mini’s compact chassis requiring dongles for certain connections rather than the full complement of integrated ports found on the larger original model.

The Power 1000 Mini carries a UK price of £449, though DJI has confirmed that US market approval remains pending, with the company noting that the application for authorisation is still under review by the relevant regulatory authority.

DJI has not confirmed a timeline for when US availability will be resolved, leaving the Power 1000 Mini currently accessible to buyers in the UK and Europe while American customers wait on the outcome of the regulatory process.
