Dyson launches its first self-emptying vacuum cleaner

Dyson has unveiled its first self-emptying cordless vacuum, pairing the new V10 Konical with an Auto-empty Dok that handles the mess for you.

The idea is simple: clean as normal, then let the dock automatically empty the bin. After that, it charges the vacuum and stores your tools with no dust clouds, no interruptions.

The headline feature here is that dock. After each clean, the Auto-empty Dok transfers debris into a sealed 2.5L bin. Dyson says this bin can hold up to 60 days’ worth of dirt. A fully enclosed system with HEPA filtration keeps dust and allergens contained during emptying, something Dyson clearly sees as the main pain point it’s trying to fix.

The vacuum itself isn’t just along for the ride. The V10 Konical introduces a detangling conical cleaner head. This new head prevents long hair and pet fur from wrapping around the brush bar. It also includes a green laser-style illumination system that highlights dust you’d otherwise miss. It’s the kind of practical upgrade that focuses less on raw power and more on making everyday cleaning easier.

That said, performance still gets a bump. The V10 Konical delivers 150 Air Watts of suction, around 30% more than the Dyson V8. It runs for up to 60 minutes on a charge. Moreover, it also adds a fully sealed five-stage HEPA filtration system. This system captures 99.99% of particles down to 0.1 microns, which covers everything from dust to allergens.

The system also slots easily into existing setups. The Auto-empty Dok is backwards compatible with Dyson V8 models, and accessories across V8 and V10 devices remain interchangeable. This should soften the blow for existing Dyson users considering an upgrade.

Pricing is split across the two components. The Dyson V10 Konical is available now for £449.99, while the Auto-empty Dok arrives later on 8 July. It will be bundled with the vacuum for £569.99.

Taken together, this feels less like a radical reinvention and more like Dyson tackling one of the most annoying parts of owning a cordless vacuum. If the dock works as promised, it could be the kind of upgrade you notice every time you don’t have to empty the bin.
