Galaxy Buds Able leak points to Samsung’s first clip-style earbuds

Samsung’s next earbuds could look very different from the Galaxy Buds we’re used to.

The rumoured Galaxy Buds Able may ditch the traditional in-ear design entirely in favour of a clip-style open-ear design.

The report comes from Korean outlet ETNews, which claims Samsung is preparing a new pair of “clip-type” earbuds. These attach to the outside of the ear rather than sitting deep inside the ear canal, and are a growing trend in the audio world right now. This is especially true for people who want to stay aware of their surroundings while listening to music or taking calls.

Brands like Sony, Bose, and Nothing have already experimented with open-ear designs over the past couple of years. However, Samsung’s apparent approach seems closest to the Sony LinkBuds Clip style. Earlier software leaks also hinted at a similar design, showing earbuds that hook or clip onto the ear rather than relying on silicone tips.

The timing makes a lot of sense too. Open-ear earbuds have quietly become one of the biggest wearable trends lately, especially among runners, commuters, and users who simply find regular earbuds uncomfortable after long sessions.

What’s interesting here is the “Able” branding itself. Samsung usually reserves the Galaxy Buds name for more traditional earbuds like the Buds Pro or Buds FE. Therefore, this could signal an entirely new sub-category within the company’s audio line-up.

The leak doesn’t reveal many hard specs yet, but Xiaomi has already launched a very similar product in China called the Xiaomi Clip. Those earbuds feature 11mm drivers and AI-powered features, along with up to 38 hours of battery life with the charging case included. Given how closely Samsung and Xiaomi often compete in wearable hardware, it would not be surprising to see similar features appear here too.

Samsung hasn’t officially acknowledged the Galaxy Buds Able yet, but the launch window is starting to look fairly obvious. With the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8 expected to arrive later this summer, there’s a good chance these new earbuds could appear alongside them.

And honestly, it feels like Samsung’s earbuds lineup was due for something a little different.
