Google’s first new smart speaker in six years may finally have a release date

According to a Best Buy Canada listing, the long-awaited Google Home Speaker may be set to launch in the coming weeks.

As reported by Android Police, the Best Buy Canada listing points to June 25th as the release date for the company’s first new smart speaker since the 2020 Nest Audio. The Google Home Speaker will also come nearly five years after the Nest Hub too.

Google announced the Home Speaker in October last year with a spring 2026 target, meaning the 25th June date is technically a bit later than initially stated.

The speaker will be available in Hazel and Porcelain, though US buyers will also have access to Jade and Berry. Although pricing is confirmed at $99.99 (US) and £99.99, there’s currently no equivalent Canadian pricing appeared in the listing.

Google has built the Home Speaker around Gemini integration, a distinction that carries both commercial weight and operational risk given the mixed reception Gemini has received across other Google products since its broader rollout began.

Gemini for Home required significant updates in early March following widespread complaints about smart home devices failing to respond to commands, a difficult backdrop for a product whose central selling point rests on voice assistant reliability straight out of the box.

The pressure on the Google Home Speaker to launch without friction is compounded by its position as the first Google smart home hardware built from the ground up around Gemini rather than retrofitted with it after release.

With under a month to go before the supposed release, and as Google hasn’t actually confirmed the launch, we’ll simply have to wait for more updates.
