Qualcomm has confirmed when it will unveil its next wave of flagship chips, with its annual Snapdragon Summit 2026 set to take place from September 22 to 24.
The chipmaker hasn’t revealed what it will announce during the three-day event. However, if recent years are anything to go by, we’ll likely see the debut of its next flagship smartphone processor. Rumours currently point to a successor to last year’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. It is (predictably) expected to be called the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6.
That alone would make the event one to watch. However, it may not be the only flagship chip Qualcomm has planned.
Recent leaks suggest Qualcomm is developing a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. This hints that the company could further expand its premium mobile lineup rather than sticking to a single flagship processor. If true, smartphone makers could have more options when choosing chips for their high-end devices next year.
There’s also speculation surrounding several other processors currently in development. Qualcomm is working on two additional 3nm chipsets, including a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5XX variant and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Pro. The naming is still a little murky at this stage. Furthermore, some suggest the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Pro could eventually launch as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 instead.
Last year’s Snapdragon Summit introduced the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. This chip quickly found its way into many of the biggest Android flagships. With rivals like MediaTek continuing to push high-end mobile performance, Qualcomm will be under pressure to deliver another meaningful leap. This would be preferable rather than a routine annual refresh.
While there’s still plenty we don’t know, the dates alone give smartphone fans a clear marker for when the next generation of Android flagship chips will finally break cover. With just a couple of months to go, more leaks and official teasers are likely to emerge before Qualcomm takes to the stage in Hawaii.
