Sony’s WH-1000XM6 headphones are getting a new version

Sony could soon expand its flagship WH-1000XM6 lineup once again, with new import documents indicating another colour option for its premium noise-cancelling headphones.

The discovery comes from The Walkman Blog, which spotted fresh import records referencing the WH-1000XM6 under the product code YY2984. The filings suggest Sony is preparing a sixth version of the headphones just months after introducing Sand Pink and, more recently, the Sandstone finish.

The attached shipping records reveal multiple entries dated 24 February 2026 for the WH1000XM6/GME and YY2984 model codes. One listing describes the product as a wireless noise-cancelling stereo headset.

Another identifies it as a sample for quality and testing purposes, indicating development and certification work is already underway. The documents also show shipments destined for Vietnam, Indonesia and India. This suggests Sony has started distributing evaluation units across several markets ahead of a wider launch.

While the filings don’t explicitly name the new finish, they repeatedly reference the colour designation “G”. According to The Walkman Blog, that is more likely to stand for Green than Gold. This is largely because Sony already offers green variants of products including the LinkBuds Fit and LinkBuds Clip.

If accurate, the new version would become the sixth colour option for the WH-1000XM6. The headphones are currently available in Black, Platinum Silver, Midnight, Sand Pink and Sandstone. This gives buyers more choice than any previous generation in Sony’s flagship range.

Outside of the new finish, there’s no indication that Sony plans to change the hardware. Buyers should therefore expect the same active noise cancellation, high-resolution audio support, long battery life and foldable design that debuted with the current model.

Sony has yet to announce the new colour officially, and import records alone don’t guarantee an imminent release. However, with certification and shipping activity already underway, the latest filings suggest another WH-1000XM6 variant could be closer than expected.
