HMD Skyline 2 leak tips big camera upgrade and faster Snapdragon chip

A fresh leak suggests the HMD Skyline 2 will arrive with a faster chipset and a surprisingly capable camera setup.

According to frequent HMD leaker Smashx_60, the Skyline 2 will still feature the previously rumoured 144Hz OLED display. However, it will reportedly be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 instead of the older Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 that earlier leaks pointed to. That should deliver a welcome performance boost for gaming, multitasking and everyday use.

The camera system also appears to have received a significant upgrade. Rather than pairing a 108MP main sensor with lower-resolution secondary cameras, the latest leak claims HMD is opting for a 108MP primary camera backed by two 50MP sensors. While the leak doesn’t specify their exact roles, that would make for a far more balanced setup than previously rumoured.

Selfie fans could also be in for a treat. The front-facing camera can be another 50MP sensor, complete with autofocus – something still relatively uncommon outside more expensive smartphones.

Elsewhere, the Skyline 2 will offer 8GB or 12GB of RAM alongside 256GB of storage, expandable by up to 1TB via microSD. Charging also looks fairly competitive, with support for 40W wired charging and Qi2 wireless charging.

The rest of the spec sheet suggests HMD isn’t cutting corners. The phone is expected to include stereo speakers, a dedicated camera shutter button and a USB 3.2 Type-C port. It will also have the company’s Gen2 repairability design, making it easier to replace parts and extend the handset’s lifespan. Black, Yellow and Cyan colour options are also reportedly in the works.

One thing that may not change is the design itself. Despite earlier rumours hinting at a redesign, the latest leak suggests the Skyline 2 will largely retain the look of the original Skyline.

HMD has yet to officially announce the device or confirm a launch date, although it’s still likely to arrive before the end of the year. There is also no word on whether previously rumoured variants, including the Skyline 2 GT and Skyline 2 Business Edition, are still in development.
