Asus is teasing an 8,000Hz ROG controller with its own display

Asus has started teasing a new ROG controller, and it looks like the company is aiming squarely at competitive gamers. While the accessory remains under wraps for now, an official teaser has already revealed one standout feature.

The teaser, shared by Asus’ ROG account on Weibo, doesn’t reveal the controller in full, but it does offer a few clues.

Most notably, the built-in display shows the number “8000”, strongly suggesting the controller will support an 8,000Hz polling rate. If that’s the case, it would be a major upgrade over the ROG Raikiri II’s 1,000Hz polling rate and a dramatic jump from the original Raikiri Pro’s 250Hz.

The display itself also hints that Asus is sticking with one of the Raikiri Pro’s more distinctive features. Although its purpose hasn’t been confirmed, the screen could once again be used to display controller settings. Alternatively, it might display profiles or other system information without requiring players to open software on their PC.

The teaser also reveals textured grips featuring a repeating ROG pattern. This suggests Asus has made a few ergonomic tweaks alongside the internal upgrades.

While Asus hasn’t confirmed the controller’s name, there’s a good chance this is the long-awaited successor to the ROG Raikiri Pro, which launched in 2023. The company later introduced the ROG Raikiri II with Xbox and Windows support. Therefore, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the next Pro model borrow features from both controllers.

If the teased polling rate proves accurate, the new controller would also put Asus in direct competition with high-performance rivals such as the GameSir Tarantula 8K PC and the GameSir G7 Pro 8K series. Both target players looking for the lowest possible input latency.

There’s still plenty Asus hasn’t revealed. Xbox compatibility remains unconfirmed, and details around the thumbsticks, triggers and rear buttons are still under wraps. However, given the direction of recent premium controllers, features such as TMR thumbsticks, adjustable triggers and programmable rear buttons all seem likely.

Asus says the new ROG controller will be announced this summer, so it may not be long before we find out whether the 8,000Hz figure is more than just a teaser.
