Apple’s next affordable iPhone could receive a modest but meaningful hardware upgrade, with multiple analysts now claiming that the iPhone 18e will ship with 9GB of RAM when it launches next spring.
The latest prediction comes from analyst Jeff Pu, who says Apple’s entry-level handset will gain an extra gigabyte of memory over the current iPhone 17e, which features 8GB of RAM. This report follows a similar claim made recently by respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
According to Kuo, both the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e are expected to launch around March or April 2027. Apple will equip both models with its upcoming A20 chip and a revised memory configuration totalling 9GB of RAM.
The extra memory isn’t expected to be about improving multitasking alone. Instead, analysts believe Apple is increasing RAM capacity to better support the growing demands of Apple Intelligence, with new AI-powered features set to appear in iOS 27.
Current rumours suggest Apple will reserve 12GB of RAM for its premium devices, including the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and the long-rumoured foldable iPhone expected later this year. As a result, the standard iPhone 18 lineup will have a smaller memory pool while still narrowing the gap with the Pro models.
Kuo also claims Apple will change how memory is packaged inside the phones. Rather than using the current 2GB × 4-die arrangement found in the iPhone 17 range, the A20-powered devices are expected to use a 1.5GB × 6-die configuration to reach the new 9GB total.
While the hardware upgrade may be welcome, it could come alongside higher prices. Apple recently increased pricing across parts of its Mac and iPad lineup. However, the iPhone 17 escaped without a price rise. Analysts now believe that could change with the next generation, particularly as AI hardware requirements continue to grow.
As always, these details remain unconfirmed until Apple makes an official announcement. However, with two well-known Apple analysts now pointing to the same RAM upgrade, the iPhone 18e’s memory boost is beginning to look like one of the more credible rumours.
