Amazon appears to be preparing a new 12th-generation Kindle for 2026, and while the hardware details are still largely under wraps, the leaked marketing images already give us a good idea of what to expect.
The biggest change is a subtle redesign of the e-reader. The new Kindle appears to have an e-paper display with slightly rounded corners, replacing the perfectly rectangular panel used on previous models. The power button is also moving from the bottom of the device to the top-right edge, which should make it easier to reach while holding the Kindle.
Amazon is expected to stick with a display of around six inches, with front lighting and potentially a slightly brighter panel, although the available images don’t confirm the technical specifications yet. The renders also appear to show two possible display designs, with one version sitting slightly recessed into the body.
The more interesting change, at least visually, is the colour selection. Alongside the familiar black finish, Amazon is apparently preparing green, light blue and purple versions. That’s a welcome bit of personality for a device that has traditionally kept things fairly understated.
Amazon also appears to be working on a new Kindle for Kids. It should be largely the same device as the standard 12th-generation Kindle, with the main differences being an included cover and potentially a more robust warranty.
There are still plenty of unanswered questions. The images don’t reveal the Kindle’s price, processor, storage or battery capacity, and Amazon hasn’t confirmed exactly how many versions will launch. Even the display variations should be treated cautiously, since the information is based on marketing images rather than a full specification sheet.
Still, the new colours and small design changes suggest Amazon isn’t simply giving its basic Kindle a fresh internal spec sheet. If these images are accurate, the 2026 Kindle could be a little more colourful and a little easier to use when it arrives.
