Ayaneo’s new handheld looks like a Game Boy Advance

Ayaneo appears to have found its next source of inspiration, teasing a new handheld that looks set to revive the iconic Game Boy Advance.

The teaser follows Ayaneo’s latest product showcase, where the company outlined its plans for the second half of the year. Alongside a new Windows-powered handheld, it confirmed that its Konkr sub-brand is working on another retro-inspired device described as a “reimagining” of a gaming classic.

Ayaneo hasn’t officially said which console it’s drawing from, but the latest teaser leaves little doubt: the silhouette matches the original Game Boy Advance. This suggests the new Konkr handheld will adopt the same wide horizontal design that helped make Nintendo’s 2001 console so memorable.

If that’s the case, this won’t be Ayaneo’s first nostalgic remake. The company has already released the Pocket DMG, based on the original Game Boy. It has also launched the Pocket Micro series, which reimagines the Game Boy Micro with modern hardware. A Game Boy Advance-inspired model feels like the next logical step.

While Ayaneo hasn’t confirmed the specifications, a modern interpretation is expected to go well beyond simply recreating the original hardware. A larger, higher-resolution display with the Game Boy Advance’s 3:2 aspect ratio seems likely.

Ayaneo could also equip the handheld with a much faster processor capable of emulating Game Boy Advance titles and other retro platforms, or a bigger battery and updated controls to better suit today’s players.

There’s also a chance Ayaneo could lean into the nostalgia with classic colour options. The original Game Boy Advance launched in several memorable finishes, including Indigo, Black and Orange. It wouldn’t be surprising to see at least some of those make a return.

The company hasn’t announced a release date yet, but more details are expected as the launch approaches. Ayaneo is also developing another retro-inspired device, the Konkr Pocket Block, a vertical handheld that it announced alongside the new model.

For now, the biggest mystery is when they’ll arrive. Hopefully, Ayaneo has learned from the Pocket Micro 2’s limited availability, giving more gamers the chance to get their hands on its latest throwback handheld.
