The Ultrahuman smart ring app just got a huge upgrade

Smart ring maker Ultrahuman just overhauled its mobile app.

The update, called Emerald, is available globally from today as a free upgrade for all Ultrahuman users. Rather than introducing new hardware, the company has focused on making the app easier to understand and surfacing more actionable recommendations based on the health data your smart ring already collects.

The headline feature is UltraSphere, which Ultrahuman describes as the world’s first wearable decision engine. Instead of simply displaying metrics such as sleep, recovery or heart rate variability, it suggests what users should do next based on their data. It also considers location, weather conditions and daily routines.

Examples include reminders to get outside shortly after waking, avoid caffeine later in the day or take a short walk to combat the afternoon energy dip. The recommendations also adapt to different lifestyles, such as athletes, shift workers, frequent travellers, and new parents.

The Emerald update also gives the app a complete visual overhaul. It introduces both light and dark modes alongside a redesigned interface that places key health information front and centre. Jade AI, Ultrahuman’s personalised health assistant, now gets its own dedicated tab, connecting insights from sleep, movement, recovery, glucose tracking and blood tests.

Fitness tracking also receives a substantial upgrade. Ultrahuman says it has rebuilt its workout heart rate algorithms to improve accuracy across a wider range of activities, while automatic workout detection has also been refined.

One of the more useful additions is support for third-party workout devices. Users can now record workouts using hardware such as an Apple Watch, Garmin smartwatch, WHOOP band, compatible chest straps or even AirPods Gen 3. The data syncs directly into the Ultrahuman platform.

VO₂ Max estimates have also been updated, with Ultrahuman claiming a 21% improvement in accuracy after validating its algorithm against laboratory-grade cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET). According to the company, results typically fall within 5 mL/kg/min of lab measurements.

Beyond fitness, Emerald introduces several new health-focused tools, including a Sleep Screener that combines sleep stages, respiratory health, AFib detection (where supported), body temperature, and smart alarms into a single overnight report.

A new Longevity section brings together long-term metrics such as UltraAge, Pulse Age, Brain Age and Blood Age. Meanwhile, the Connections feature now lets users share health metrics, including cycle and ovulation data, with partners or family members if they choose.

Perhaps the biggest change is that many of these insights now work directly on the ring, allowing users to access live metrics, recovery scores and UltraSphere recommendations even without an internet connection. It’s a notable step forward for the platform and is especially helpful for users travelling or exercising away from reliable connectivity.
