Spotify users were hit by another frustrating service disruption on Monday, with the music streaming platform suffering two separate outages in the space of a few hours before service was restored.
The second and more widespread issue began in the afternoon. It prevented many users from streaming music, logging into their accounts, searching Spotify’s library, or managing account settings. The company acknowledged the problems shortly after reports began appearing, confirming on X that it was investigating issues affecting its website.
Roughly three hours later, Spotify announced the outage had been resolved. The company told users the service was “all clear” and thanked them for their patience. Error reports on outage tracking site Downdetector also began falling shortly after Spotify confirmed the fix.
Spotify had already dealt with a separate incident during the morning, with reports of playback and connectivity problems surfacing before the company restored service about an hour later.
While outages of this scale are relatively uncommon, they can be particularly disruptive for a platform with hundreds of millions of active users. These users rely on Spotify for everything from music streaming to podcasts and audiobooks. The twin incidents also arrived just months after the company dealt with another high-profile outage, making Monday an unusually troublesome day for the service.
Spotify didn’t provide any details on what caused either interruption, only directing affected users to its support and community channels while engineers worked on resolving the issues. As is often the case with service disruptions, the company focused on restoring functionality before offering any technical explanation.
For anyone still encountering problems, it’s worth checking Spotify’s official status channels before reinstalling the app or resetting account settings. After all, widespread outages are usually resolved server-side without any action required from users.
Thankfully, the interruptions now appear to be over, with Spotify confirming service has been restored across its apps and website. For most users, that means playlists, podcasts and music libraries should once again be available as normal.
