Google could be about to make a long-requested change to the Pixel lineup. A new report claims every Pixel 11 model will start with 256GB of storage instead of 128GB.
According to WinFuture’s Roland Quandt, the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL will all launch with 256GB as the base configuration. That would mark the end of the 128GB entry-level option. Notably, this option has been available on Pixel phones since the range first launched in 2016.
If accurate, the move would bring Google’s flagship phones closer to Apple’s latest iPhone strategy. Apple has also shifted towards higher base storage on some premium models. This change comes as apps, photos and AI features demand more space.
The trade-off, however, could be price. Google has already confirmed that US buyers should expect higher Pixel 11 prices. However, the outlook appears more positive in the UK.
The report suggests the Pixel 11 will start at £879 with 256GB of storage, slightly undercutting the equivalent 256GB Pixel 10, which launched at £899. The Pixel 11 Pro is also tipped to fall from £1,099 to £1,079. Meanwhile, the Pixel 11 Pro XL is expected to rise to £1,279, up from £1,199 for its predecessor.
For many buyers, doubling the entry-level storage could help justify those higher prices. Modern smartphones ship with increasingly large operating systems and pre-installed apps. Additionally, games, offline media and high-resolution photos can quickly consume available space. Removing the 128GB option would also simplify Google’s lineup. However, it would leave budget-conscious buyers without a cheaper entry point.
The latest leak also includes claimed battery capacities for the upcoming phones. The standard Pixel 11 is tipped to feature a 4,985mAh battery, while the Pixel 11 Pro could include a 4,850mAh cell. In addition, the larger Pixel 11 Pro XL is reportedly set for a 5,115mAh battery, making it the biggest in the range.
Other rumours point to a largely familiar design. Google is expected to introduce a new “Pixel Glow” lighting system around the rear camera module. It could display different notification patterns for incoming calls, messages and other alerts.
As always, these details remain unconfirmed for now. Google is expected to unveil the Pixel 11 series at its Made by Google event on 12 August, with pre-orders likely to open the same day. Until then, prospective buyers should treat the specifications and pricing as rumours rather than confirmed details.
