Samsung’s latest foldable phones appear to be off to a flying start, with the company revealing record pre-order numbers for its new Galaxy Z Fold 8 series and Galaxy Z Flip 8.
According to Samsung, the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip 8 collectively attracted 271,000 pre-orders in India within their first 72 hours. That’s a significant improvement over last year’s launch – Samsung notes it took 15 days for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 to reach the same milestone.
The figures make this Samsung’s strongest foldable launch in one of its biggest smartphone markets, pointing towards growing consumer confidence in foldable devices despite their premium price tags.
Interestingly, Samsung says demand isn’t being driven solely by buyers in major cities. Around 45% of pre-orders came from ‘Tier 2 cities’ and smaller markets. This suggests foldables are attracting interest well beyond traditional technology hubs.
The company’s latest lineup also covers a broader range of price points than previous generations. In India, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 starts at INR 124,999 (roughly $1,306). Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 begins at INR 179,999 (around $1,881). Sitting at the top of the range is the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, which starts at INR 199,999 (approximately $2,090).
The strong early response follows Samsung’s efforts to differentiate its new foldables. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra introduces the company’s thinnest foldable design to date. Meanwhile, the standard Fold 8 focuses on delivering a lighter, more approachable large-screen experience. Additionally, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 continues to target buyers looking for a more compact foldable. For these buyers, the emphasis is on style and portability.
While it’s too early to judge long-term sales, Samsung’s latest figures suggest foldables are gaining momentum faster than previous generations. If demand continues at this pace, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series could mark another important step towards foldable phones becoming a more common sight rather than a niche alternative to traditional smartphones.
