Huawei unveiled the Pura X View on August 20 during a HarmonyOS smart car launch event and the phone has already attracted attention outside China thanks to its unusual display design.
The Pura X View has a 6.39-inch display with a 16:9:5 aspect ratio and a 2232 x 1320 resolution. That unusually wide shape is the main talking point, but Huawei has also kept the rest of the display design impressively compact.
The screen is surrounded by just 1.05mm bezels on all four sides, while peak brightness reaches 6500 nits. That should make the display easier to see in bright outdoor conditions, although Huawei’s source does not specify how long the phone can sustain its peak brightness.
The unusual design doesn’t appear to come at the expense of portability, either. The Pura X View weighs 201g and measures just 6.68mm thick, while still packing a sizeable 7000mAh battery. Around the back, Huawei has added a patterned finish and a horizontal camera island that houses the phone’s camera system. Underneath, the Pura X View uses Huawei’s Kirin 9030S chipset paired with 12GB of RAM.
Interestingly, it’s the display that makes the Pura X View stand out. Rather than chasing the increasingly familiar tall-and-narrow smartphone shape, Huawei has gone in the opposite direction with a wider screen that gives the phone a distinctive look. It’s a bit similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8.

Huawei traditionally launches its phones in China first, but the Pura X View has already generated interest internationally, with posts about the handset spreading across X and tech media shortly after its unveiling. However, even it did launch in other regions, it would come without Google Services.
There’s no word yet on a wider international launch, but the Pura X View is another example of Huawei trying something different with smartphone design. And in a market where most phones increasingly look alike, that alone makes it worth watching.
