LG has launched a new gaming monitor that pushes refresh rates to a staggering 1000Hz, but it isn’t aimed at the average gaming setup.
The LG UltraGear 25G590B is a 24.5-inch Full HD monitor designed specifically for competitive gaming, with a native 1000Hz refresh rate and a £899 price tag. According to LG, 25G590B is the world’s first native Full HD gaming monitor. Unlike dual-mode displays that can reach higher refresh rates only after changing resolution or screen settings, the monitor runs at 1000Hz at its native 1920 x 1080 resolution.
That makes it particularly suited to fast-paced FPS games, where being able to quickly track opponents and react to movement can make a difference. The high refresh rate allows the screen to update the image more frequently. Meanwhile, the native Full HD resolution keeps menus, HUD elements and other onscreen details sharp without relying on scaling.
LG has also included its Motion Blur Reduction Pro technology, which is designed to make fast-moving objects easier to track. The monitor uses an IPS panel with a low-reflection film, with the latter helping to reduce glare while maintaining consistent colour reproduction.
The 24.5-inch size is another deliberate choice for competitive gaming. LG says this is a size widely used in esports, as it keeps important visual information within the player’s field of view. It does this without requiring excessive eye movement.
The monitor also comes with an adjustable stand supporting height, swivel and tilt adjustments, with calibration indicators designed to make it easier to recreate a preferred setup. Its compact base leaves more room for mouse movement. Additionally, customisable UltraGear Emblem lighting adds some ambient illumination.
LG hasn’t stopped at refresh rate, either. The 25G590B includes on-device AI features, with AI Scene Optimisation adjusting picture settings according to the game genre. AI Sound is also designed to provide more spatial audio and clearer voices when used with compatible headsets.
The LG UltraGear 25G590B costs £899 in the UK and is due to launch in September.
