MacBook Neo 2 tipped for release in the coming months

Apple could be preparing to launch the second-generation MacBook Neo sooner than expected, with a new report suggesting the company’s affordable laptop will receive an upgrade in the first half of 2027.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is planning to release the MacBook Neo 2 within the next several months, although an exact launch date hasn’t been confirmed. Previous reports suggest the new model will feature an A19 Pro chip, 12GB of RAM and additional colour options, giving it a notable boost over the original MacBook Neo, which arrived in March 2026.

The biggest improvement could come from the upgraded processor and memory. The current MacBook Neo runs on Apple’s A18 Pro chip with 8GB of RAM, while its successor is reportedly moving to the A19 Pro alongside 12GB of memory. That extra RAM could make a difference when running multiple apps or handling more demanding tasks, although it remains to be seen how much of a performance improvement the new model will deliver.

Apple is also reportedly planning to introduce new colours, although there’s no word yet on which shades will be available. The existing MacBook Neo comes in Silver, Blush, Citrus and Indigo, giving buyers a more colourful alternative to the company’s traditional MacBook lineup. Despite speculation about a touchscreen version, there’s currently no reliable indication that the second-generation model will include one.

The timing wouldn’t be particularly surprising given the success of the original MacBook Neo, which reportedly helped boost Apple’s Mac sales earlier this year. A March 2027 launch would also mark exactly one year since the first model arrived, although Bloomberg has only confirmed a broader first-half release window.

Pricing remains another unanswered question. The original MacBook Neo launched at $599/£599 in the US, but Apple increased its starting price to $699/£699 in June 2026, citing the global chip shortage. There’s no indication yet whether the MacBook Neo 2 will retain that price or cost more.

As of now, Apple hasn’t officially confirmed the new laptop, but if the reported upgrades hold true, the MacBook Neo 2 could offer a worthwhile performance boost without moving too far from its budget-friendly roots.
