Twelve South has unveiled the AirFly View, an upgraded version of its popular Bluetooth audio adapter that now comes with a built-in screen to make connecting wireless headphones to in-flight entertainment systems much easier.
The biggest change is the new display, which guides users through the pairing process step by step in 24 languages, alleviating any issues with the often finicky pairing process on the older models.
It also shows which headphones are connected and how much battery is remaining. The screen automatically switches off when not in use to conserve power, which is nice to see.
Like previous AirFly models, the View plugs into a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, allowing travellers to use their own wireless earbuds or headphones with an aircraft’s seatback entertainment system, many of which still don’t use Bluetooth.
It can also connect two pairs of headphones simultaneously, making it particularly useful for couples or families who want to watch the same film without sharing earbuds.
Twelve South has made a few other improvements to the travel experience. The AirFly View offers up to 16 hours of battery life and now includes a zippered hard-shell carrying case alongside an international airline adapter for aircraft with two-prong headphone sockets. That means there’s no need to purchase a separate adapter for compatible airline systems.
It’s not limited to flights, either. The AirFly View can connect wireless headphones to gym equipment and other devices with headphone jacks, while its audio transmission capabilities also allow users to stream music from a phone to a car or boat stereo through an AUX connection. There’s also Auracast support, adding compatibility with the newer Bluetooth broadcast audio technology.
The AirFly View is available now for £79.99 in the UK, with Black and Coastal colour options available. It costs $79.99 in the US, while the existing AirFly SE, Pro and Pro 2 remain part of the lineup.
