Apple may have accidentally revealed that another wearable is in the works.
A newly discovered reference in the iOS 27 source code points to an unreleased Apple device. This device appears to support Visual Intelligence, fuelling fresh speculation about what the company is building next.
The discovery comes from X user @samhenrigold, who spotted a device with the model number B790 hidden within iOS 27’s code. While the reference doesn’t identify the product by name, it does indicate that it supports Visual Intelligence. Apple’s AI-powered feature uses the camera to recognise objects, landmarks, text and brands.
That detail is significant because it strongly suggests the mystery device includes a camera.
Visual Intelligence debuted with iOS 27 and is currently available on the iPhone 15 Pro and newer. It lets users point their camera at real-world objects and ask Siri questions about what they’re seeing. This could be translating text, identifying landmarks or recognising products.
The source code doesn’t reveal anything else about the B790 device, leaving plenty of room for speculation. One possibility is that Apple is laying the groundwork for its long-rumoured smart glasses. Visual Intelligence would be a natural fit for a wearable that can see the world around you.
Another theory is that the code refers to a future pair of camera-equipped AirPods. However, that seems less likely following recent reports that Apple has paused development of camera-equipped AirPods Ultra. This makes smart glasses a more plausible candidate for now.
It’s worth stressing that a reference in source code is far from confirmation of a finished product. Companies often test hardware internally, and not every prototype makes it to market. Likewise, the B790 model number offers no clues about when, or even if, the device will launch.
Still, the timing is interesting. Apple has been steadily expanding its AI ambitions, and the big Visual Intelligence update is set to be one of the standout additions in iOS 27.
For now, the mystery remains unsolved, but this latest code discovery offers one of the clearest hints yet. Apple’s next wearable could be closer than expected.
