Samsung’s next foldables might not look dramatically different on paper, but they could feel very different in your hands.
According to a pair of new leaks, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 lineup will introduce a redesigned hinge that changes how the phones open and close and make the inner display creases much less noticeable.
The claims come from well-known leaker Ice Universe and a separate report from South Korea’s Naver forum, which cites supply chain sources. Both suggest Samsung has reworked the hinge mechanism for its next-generation foldables. Even if the rest of the hardware appears to be a relatively modest upgrade over the Galaxy Z Fold 7, the new hinge is notable.
As a result, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is easier to fold and unfold than previous models. The Naver report specifically mentions the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Ice Universe, however, believes the changes will apply across the entire Fold 8 lineup.
That redesigned hinge could also address one of the biggest complaints about foldables: the crease. According to Ice Universe, Samsung’s crease reduction is expected to be comparable to the Oppo Find N6, whose fold line is widely regarded as one of the least visible in the category. If the leak proves accurate, the Fold 8 could deliver Samsung’s cleanest folding display yet.
The trade-off, however, may be flexibility. Ice Universe claims the new hinge won’t hold its position as firmly at certain angles. Therefore, this potentially makes Flex Mode less stable than on previous Galaxy Fold devices. Whether that becomes an issue in everyday use remains to be seen.
There could also be differences between Samsung’s two foldables. Earlier rumours have suggested the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra will use a denser ultra-thin glass (UTG) layer than the standard model. This could further improve crease visibility and boost overall durability.
For now, these details remain firmly in the rumour stage. However, if Samsung has prioritised the feel of the hinge over headline-grabbing specs, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 could end up being a more meaningful upgrade than its early spec sheet suggests.
