OnePlus 16 release date leaked with a notable change

OnePlus may have pushed back the launch of its next flagship smartphone by a month.

The latest claim comes from prolific leaker Digital Chat Station, who last month suggested the handset would debut in September.

However, the tipster has now revised that prediction. He says the OnePlus 16 is instead expected to launch in October, this takes it out of launching at the same time as the iPhone 18 Pro.

This delay may not be particularly significant, as OnePlus has traditionally unveiled its flagship phones in October, at least for the last few years, so the updated timeline would represent a return to the company’s usual launch cadence rather than a major shift in strategy.

The revised leak also claims that OnePlus isn’t planning a dramatic redesign this year. The OnePlus 16 is expected to retain a look that’s broadly similar to its predecessor with a familiar square-shaped rear camera module.

According to the latest rumours, the OnePlus 16 will be powered by Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro processor. This chip is expected to power many of next year’s best Android phones. The device is also tipped to feature a 185Hz 6.78-inch OLED display with slim bezels

Perhaps the most eye-catching rumour, however, is the battery. The OnePlus 16 is said to pack a huge 9000mAh cell, which would comfortably eclipse the batteries found in today’s flagship smartphones if it proves accurate. Such a capacity could make the OnePlus 16 one of the longest-lasting premium Android phones on the market.

For now, it’s worth treating all of these details with some caution. Digital Chat Station has a solid track record with smartphone leaks, but OnePlus has yet to officially confirm either the launch date or any specifications for its next flagship.

It’s also unlikely we’ll see a wide release for the phone, as OnePlus has recently exited certain markets.
