Xbox gamers could be facing another hefty price tag with, a new leak suggests Microsoft’s translucent green special-edition Series X could cost around $900 when it launches later this year.
The reported price comes from French site Dealabs, which lists the console at €900 and claims it will launch on November 27. Microsoft has yet to confirm either detail, so the pricing should be treated as a leak for now. If the US price follows the same pattern, the special edition could cost around $900.
That would make it $100 more expensive than the current $800 Xbox Series X with a disc drive. In addition, it is a staggering $400 more than the console’s original $500 launch price.
The special edition is expected to celebrate the Xbox brand’s 25th anniversary. It features a translucent green design that takes inspiration from the original Xbox. The console was shown at Microsoft’s Xbox event during Summer Game Fest in June, but Microsoft has not yet revealed its official price.
If the leaked figure is accurate, it would put the special edition at the same $900 price as Sony’s PlayStation 5 Pro. That’s a lot to ask for what appears to be a cosmetic upgrade, particularly when the underlying hardware is reportedly unchanged.
The timing also highlights just how much Xbox hardware prices have increased. Microsoft has raised its console prices twice in recent years, with the latest increase in June pushing the disc-equipped Series X to $800. The company also discontinued the 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition, leaving 1TB models in its current lineup.
The wider gaming market isn’t exactly offering much relief. Sony raised the price of the PS5 Pro to $900, while the PS5 with a disc drive now costs $650. Nintendo is also raising the Switch 2‘s price to $500 from September 1, a $50 increase over its launch price.
Rising component costs linked to the RAM shortage, along with tariffs and logistical issues, have been blamed for some of these increases. The result is a gaming market where new hardware is becoming increasingly difficult to justify, especially for players who already own relatively recent consoles.
For Xbox fans, the nostalgia of a translucent green 25th anniversary design could prove tempting. But if this $900 price is accurate, that nostalgia will come at a serious premium.
