Boox’s new Poke 7 ereaders get a fresh redesign

Boox has revealed the Poke 7 and Poke 7 Pro, two new e-readers that replace the Poke 6 and Poke 6s.

Although the Poke 7 and Poke 7 Pro look pretty similar, they differ with their respective RAM offerings, with the former equipped with 2GB while the Pro iteration sports 3GB. While the difference may not sound like much, this is noteworthy for those who run multiple apps or heavier workloads through the Android 11 operating system, which both devices ship with.

Both e-readers carry a 6-inch monochrome display with 300 ppi resolution, a flush tempered glass panel, and an improved front light, specifications that sit in line with what most readers expect from a dedicated e-ink device in this size class. While the Poke 7 Pro is only available in White, the Poke 7 comes in a choice between Blue, White and Sand.

Otherwise, the Boox 7 series runs on an unnamed Qualcomm octa-core processor, with storage starting at 32GB on both models and can be expanded by up to 2TB via a microSD card slot.

The shift from the Poke 6s as the entry-level option to a full Poke 7 Pro as the premium tier suggests Boox is nudging the series upmarket, a move that reflects broader momentum in the e-ink reader category as more users look for Android-powered alternatives to Kindle’s more closed ecosystem.

Despite the RAM difference, the two devices are otherwise physically identical, sharing a 6.7mm thickness, a 165g weight, and a 1,500mAh battery, which means the choice between them comes down entirely to whether the extra gigabyte of RAM justifies the price gap.

Speaking of which, although Boox is yet to confirm the global pricing and launch details, the Poke 7 is listed at ¥1,199, which is roughly £135 at current exchange rates. In comparison, the while the Poke 7 Pro comes in at ¥1,399, around £157.
